Valuation for a Solar Power Generation Company

Valtech’s valuation team has recently completed a valuation engagement for a large solar power generation company in China. The target company operates in the development, construction, and operation of photovoltaic (“PV”) power plants, playing an active role in supporting China’s renewable energy transition and carbon-neutral targets.

The purpose of the engagement was to determine the fair value of a minority equity interest for financial reporting under the Hong Kong Financial Reporting Standards(“HKFRS”). In performing this assignment, our team carried out a detailed assessment of the company’s operational and financial profile, considering factors such as project portfolio performance and market outlook for renewable power generation.

From a methodological perspective, we carefully evaluated all three conventional valuation approaches and adopted the Market Approach as the most appropriate, given the nature of the business and the availability of comparable listed renewable energy companies. Through benchmarking against selected peers in the solar power generation sectors, and applying relevant market multiples, our analysis captured both the intrinsic performance of the company and current market expectations toward clean-energy assets. Throughout the process, our valuation specialists maintained close and transparent communication with the client’s management and their external auditors, ensuring that key assumptions, methodologies, and conclusions aligned with the applicable accounting and fair-value measurement standards.
